First Foray
I've returned to my native heath after 12 years in the US, and am hoping that Macclesfield, close to both Derbyshire and Staffordshire borders, isn't too far out of the scope of this journal.

After several months of family, family, house, and family, I'm hoping that 2007 will see us exploring the area more, especially up in the hills - from our house, we can see the Hollins, and wandering down to the end of the road takes us to Buxton Road, with the Peak National Park in walking distance.

Not that far from me! I live near the borders of Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cheshire and Derbyshire (actually in the top right hand corner of Cheshire). The Peaks and Pennines make super walking areas even for someone as minimally fit as me; when I moved up from London six years ago one of the first things I had to do was buy a pair of walking boots - for the first time in my life!

Fabulous! I'm getting fitter as time goes by, and hopefully will be hiking about in the not too distant future. I was ill throughout my teens and early 20s, the time when I should have been learning the countryside, and so this is my opportunity to make up for that time and get to know the area properly. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm friending you, if you don't mind, so I can keep in touch - to let you know titles of good books of not too demanding walks (particularly ones that begin or end at a pub...)

Oh, bless your heart! I've just been nosy and had a poke through your LJ (I rarely do that to folk I don't already know), and anyone who has an interest in history and Doctor Who must surely be alright ;)
